Since 1876

A spoonful with a long memory

Scott’s Emulsion began in New York in 1876, when Alfred Downing Scott and Samuel Bowne set out to make cod liver oil — then already a household staple — something a child would actually swallow. Their answer was emulsification: breaking the oil into a smooth, creamy blend that hid the harshness without diluting the substance. The fisherman carrying a great cod on his back became the trademark, and the amber bottle traveled the world.

Nowhere did it take root deeper than in Latin America. For generations of families from Mexico to Colombia to Peru, la Emulsión de Scott was simply part of growing up — the spoonful before school, administered by mothers and grandmothers who had taken it from their own. The traditional flavor, then cherry and tropical fruits, turned a duty into a routine and a routine into a memory.

This catalog gathers both branches of that story as they are sold in the United States today: the original Spanish-labeled presentations imported from the Latin American line, and the newer U.S. line — flavored bottles, a family size, and mango gummies — that carries the same cod liver oil tradition in formats built for American shelves. Every listing here links to our retail partner, where current prices and availability are always shown.
